Magister Legum (LL.M.)

The department of law of the Justus Liebig University Giessen offers a postgraduate degree program. Pre-condition for the so called Magister Legum (LL.M.) is a foreign law degree. The program puts the students in the position to gain an additional qualification in the fields of German Law and Comparative Law, after they have finished their foreign law degree. The program provides an opportunity to deepen the knowledge and skills in an optional field of study. The competent knowledge will be proved at the end of the study year by taking an examination. Result of a successful study is the award of a Master´s degree. Please find further information on the preconditions and requirements of the course in the study regulations by the faculty of law. The most important prerequisites are:

• the successful compliance of studies in the field of law, equivalent to a German law degree

• sufficient knowledge of the German language

• studies at the Justus Liebig University Giessen, law school, exceeding two consecutive semester, with a workload of at least 12 semester periods

• acquirement of 5 certificates of achievement

• a Master thesis on a chosen topic under supervision of a tutor

• an oral colloquium conferring the Master thesis. The Dean and the tutor will decide about the admission to the examination.
